The Grange School Long Eaton
This was a Primary and Secondary School and also used as an annex for extra classroom space for the Long Eaton Grammar School - up until 1969.

The school was opened in 1940 and was originally designed as a secondary school to cope with the growth of the town. It still remains largely unchanged from the original design. The origins of the The Grange School started with the opening in 1876 of the Board School on the High Street, Long Eaton. When this closed in 1940 pupills were transfered to the newly opened Grange School.

Says June Flindall: it had a secondary modern section headed by Mr. Graham. The primary school (infants and juniors) was headed by Miss Greenwood. She achieved fame by caning the whole school with a billiard cue after they had all sloped off to look at a crashed plane in Toton Fields. The good old days!

Says John Wood: Although I had no direct connection with the school one of my more distant relations was married to the caretaker at the school, Joe Grundy. The school heating was a coke-burning system and regrettably Joe was overcome by carbon monoxide in the boiler house and died there. I believe this was 1952. Another piece in the jigsaw.
