I sadly inform you of the death of Ivan Hopkins aged 72 from Parkinsons and M.S. on February 5th 2011. Ivan finished LEGS from 5A/6A around 1954/5.( not sure) He was a brilliant student academically and athletically. He representated LEGS in sports(soccor and cricket and running relays as the anchor on many occasions.) His employment was in the Civil Service. He first joined at the Chillwell depot as a clerk. He took many examinations to further his career and eventually was promoted to the WAR office in London. When he finally was released of his job because of his ill health as Higher Executive Officer of WAR OFFICE RECORDS he had a staff of over 600 employees reporting to him. I have known Ivan as a personal friend all my life even though I have lived in Canada for almost fifty years. My wife and I have always kept in contact with Ivan and the family and visited with him on a number of occasions in Luton where he lived. What a great guy ! Please pass along to all who would have known him. Regards, Ivor.
