Sir Gordon Hobday, born 1 February 1916, died 27 May 2015 aged 99. A former pupil of the Long Eaton County Secondary School.
He was a research chemist who championed the development of the anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen before becoming chairman of Boots and Central Independent Television. He attended the Centenary Open Day celebrations in July 2010 and previously the Last Detention School Dinner when the school vacated the old building to move to a new site at Thoresby Road in Dec 2005.
