David Archer
LEGS 1955
Died 29 May 2008
From MICK LORD: David John Archer.
David died 29 May 2008 from Motor Neurone disease.
He left LEGS in 1955 to take a degree at Liverpool University.A lifelong cyclist and good friend to many David became a teacher, bought and renovated a chapel in Cressbrook, Derbyshire-created Rutland Cycling-voted by the Daily Telegraph to be the best cycle hire business in Europe-together with Ann his wife built a magnificent house at Ketton-started a successful car business importing Saab cars and cycled all over Britain and Europe. He had cycled over 24000 miles on his last bike.
David had many lifelong friends. A group of families have cycled, walked and holidayed with David and Davids family-Ann, Paul and Sally for over 30 years. We called him "Our Leader". He led us to places we would never have gone to or even thought of going to -all our children grew up together-and were much better for it and for so many wonderful experiences together. David will be sorely missed by us all. It is no exaggeration to say that our lives would have been very different without his friendship.
David funeral will take place at Saint Marys Church Ketton at 1pm on tuesday June 10. A reception will be held at the Northwich pub Ketton.

From PETER HARRISON: Hello Mick So sorry to read about Dave's passing. I know you will be deeply saddened as you had told us on our last visit of the good holidays and times you had with Dave and his family. Whilst I have never met up with Dave from the time at school together I was hoping that we could all meet up on our next visit to England. Please pass on to his wife and family my condolences and I trust you will overcome the sadness of the loss of a good friend. Kindest regards, Peter Harrison.
