He matriculated when he was 16. His brother had done teacher training at Notts Uni, but he persuaded his parents that it was not necessary. So Jack went to teach boys not much younger than himself. Later he went on to do a course of teacher training at Notts Uni. One of his courses was craft and I still treasure some of his metalwork. When he retired from teaching he went back to LEGS as a Lab assistant until 1972. He enjoyed that as he had no responsibilities over the students. He helped Miss Henley in Domestic Science and the woodwork master too.
