Margaret Mellor, winning the High Jump. Margaret was the outstanding girl athlete during her 6 years at School. She won the sprint events in each of those years as well as consistently winning the high jump and long jump. She continued her athletics training at University.
In 2020 she reminisced and stated : I left LEGS in 1951 and went to the University of St Andrews to study medicine. Athletics remained an important part of my life and in 1953 I was chosen to represent Great Britain at the World Student Games in Dortmund. I ran the third leg in the 4x100m women’s relay and the many hours of training and practising paid off and we won the Bronze Medal. This was, of course, the highlight of my Athletics life.
